Our Constitution   Our Business Plan   Our Communications Strategy

General Meetings
Council meets at 7:30pm on the third Thursday of each month at the Irish Club, 6 Parkinson Street, Weston ACT (excluding January). General members of the Council comprise two delegates from each of the member motoring clubs.

Liaise with National Capital Authority
The Council works with the NCA and the ACT Government to gain access to and use of the various display sites in the Parliamentary Triangle and throughout the ACT. Restrictions imposed in recent years have limited the sites available but major displays, such as the annual 'Wheels' in late summer has been exempt from relocation. Clubs should work through the Events Coordinator on site access/use.

Home For Council
The Council of ACT Motoring Clubs is looking for a permanent home to better support the motoring enthusiasts of the ACT and surrounding region.  To achieve this we are examining the development of a “Mega Shed”.

Motoring Events
The Council manages a complete calendar of motoring events happening in the ACT and surrounding region.  The Council hosts two major motoring displays each year, Shannons Wheels during March and Marques in the Park during November.  These events are well supported by ACT motoring clubs with over 800 vehicles attending and significant funds raised for local charities.

Concessional Registration Scheme
The Council co-manages (with the ACT Government) the Concessional Registration Scheme (CRS) which allows vehicles more than 30 years old to be registered at a concessional rate under strict conditions. The Council is affiliated with the Australian History Motoring Federation which represents 600 vehicle clubs and 100,000 vehicle owners in Australia.

Canberra Pie Cart
The Council has completed a significant restoration project of the
Canberra Pie Cart, a 1939 Chevrolet van that was used during the 1940-70s to service local Government Departments and weekend football matches. The restoration was completed with the assistance of students from Copeland College Melba, Shannons Insurance and the ACT Goverment Heritage Grants Scheme.

Canberra Centenary Celebrations
Canberra will celebrate its centenary in 2013 and the Council is planning a sponsored event to coincide with the annual Wheels display on the weekend of 15-17 March 2013. All clubs will be encouraged to host any visitors to the event and be involved in the weekend activities. Further information will be available in late 2012.

Robert Shannon Foundation
The Robert Shannon Foundation encourages people under the age of 30 to become involved in the restoration and preservation of veteran, vintage, post-vintage, historic 50’s, historic 60’ and historic 70’s vehicles up to 30 years old.  The Council encourages applications for help with the purchase of specialist tools or equipment, restoration work, TAFE fees or other motoring projects.

Heritage Motoring Ambassadors Award
The Council has a Heritage Motoring Ambassador’s Award which was presented to the Council by Doug McGregor, Council President 1995-1997.  The award is presented at the Annual General Meeting in recognition of “Outstanding Efforts in Promoting Heritage Motoring”.

Club Advice Sheets
The Council produces Club Advice Sheets that feature answers to Frequently Asked Questions that the Council receives from various individuals and clubs on typical club activities/issues.   Please contact the Council if your club has a suggestion for the next Club Advice Sheet.
